Potty Training

We were hoping Abby would be potty-trained before baby #2 gets here, but we haven't really been doing anything other than encouraging her to sit on the potty. At first she started out using the small potty that Mom gave her. That went ok for awhile, with her using it occasionally, but it came to a point where she didn't want to sit on it at all. However, she decided she wanted to be a big girl and use the big potty, so we got her a little seat to keep her from falling in.

In the last two weeks, it seems like she has had a major breakthrough. This weekend she stayed dry the entire time we were at home. We put her in her Dora panties, which she loved. She started to go in them once, but realized what she was doing and ran to the potty and finished up in there. It is so nice not having to change diapers for a few days. When we have been out in public, she hadn't asked to use the potty at all, until yesterday. Just as the priest was finishing up the sermon at Easter mass, she said "Uh oh, pee pee!" in a fairly loud voice. Luckily not too many people heard, but Leonard and I were trying not to break out in a laugh. I took her to the bathroom and she went! She repeated it again at the very end of mass, and that time Leonard took her and had success.

Unfortunately, we have not had the same success with the other part of potty training. Leonard and I both had the pleasure of picking up accidents of that nature on Saturday, but we never got mad at her, we just showed her what happened, then sat her on the potty. She actually did more when we put her on there, so maybe she will get the hang of that pretty soon.

With any luck, she will be out of diapers during the day by the time summer gets here! We are so proud of her for doing as well as she has been the last few days.
